Wii Sports Resort coming July?

So we finally have a confirmation that the second Wii Sports title will be coming to North America in July! Japan will be getting the title in June, it seems. While Nintendo hasn’t given a specific date, we’ve pretty much got a confirmed E3 showing, and very likely, we’re going to get a stage demo of one or two of the other games included.

Now maybe can start talking about this Fatal Frame IV nonsense…. and where the hell is Disaster: Day of Crisis?!?!?!

The Nintendo DSi - So? Is it Worth it?

So, the Nintendo DSi is officially launched.  We’ve been wondering just what this system would do to the DS audience.  Would it be accepted with open-arms?  Would it be turned away like the new kid who smells like old cheese?  In this economic climate, is this going to be a bit of a misstep for Nintendo?  Well, it’s been a bit of a split… and frankly we’re  all just not sure.  So what can I offer to you?  You know the features, you know the DSiWare launch-list, and you’ve stared at the pictures of it for hours on-end, somewhat hoping that it will jump out of the computer screen and into your hand so that you may be able to feel it up-close.  What I can do is give our opinion of how much this really impacts the DS experience, and whether or not you should drop your money on this upgrade.

Final Fantasy IV review

I think generally speaking, I’m done with the Final Fantasy series.  FF VII is continued to be praised as the holy grail of the JRPG (although I can’t completely see why), and people knew they were going to buy FF XIII before it was even announced.  I, however, see the series, and the genre (generally speaking) in serious need of improvement and innovation.  Despite the franchise’s enormous success, I have yet to see the latest titles do anything actually notable or defining.  Well have no fear, because Square-Enix has decided to slap those ideas in the face and bring out a DS remake of Final Fantasy IV on the Super Nintendo…  This isn’t exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned my personal feelings about the genre needing innovation, but you know what?  Final Fantasy IV was one of the few in the franchise I actually somewhat enjoyed, so I picked this baby up on the DS and decided to forgive Square-Enix this time for a walk down memory lane.

Factor 5 may be closing up shop.

With Factor 5’s last game, Lair for PS3, a complete flop, things seem to have gone downhill for developer of the Rogue Squadron series. They’ve been working closely with Nintendo on a Wii-Exclusive title lately, that nobody seems to know about (leading theories are either a New Rogue Squadron game, or an updated Kid Icarus), which may need to be scrapped.

A post on the personal blog of one of the staff of Factor 5 last week revealed that the company was having tough economic troubles, had scrapped one of its major projects, and was considering laying off a sizeable number of staff. The blog post has since been deleted, but this week we’re seeing more and more evidence of this being true.

EDGE Magazine reports that a source within the company close to them has confirmed suspicions:

The source, who wished to remain anonymous, said 37 people were laid off from the San Rafael, Calif. studio on Friday afternoon. Around 38 people remain, he said.

IGN Wii Editor Matt Casamassina also posted this on the IGN Boards:

Was hoping the rumors weren’t true. Contacted Julian over at F5 to shed some light, but he didn’t get back to me. Got an e-mail from an inside source tonight:

“Hi Matt,

How have you been? Haven’t seen you guys since E3. I hope that you’re doing well!

[Edit] wanted me to contact you with some late breaking news. We just learned from inside sources that developer Factor 5 has officially closed their doors as of today. That’s some pretty big news considering that those guys have been around for quite a while. It’s definitely a real shame! I hope that this information is helpful to you. Take care, and please say hi to Bozon for me.”

Beh. Not sure what this does to Kid Icarus, either, but it sure doesn’t sound good. I’ll keep you posted. I’m still holding out some kind of hope there may yet be a light at the end of the tunnel.

All in all, nothing is looking good right now, especially since Matt mentions Kid Icarus specifically.

EA Releases Soundtrack to Henry Hatsworth, for Free.

EA’s upcoming DS game Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure is part adventure/sidescroller and part puzzle game. I haven’t been buying many games lately (or playing many for that matter), but at the moment this game stands on the top of my DS Games To Buy list.

Another thing this game has going for it is a stellar soundtrack, which you can now download for FREE from EA’s Henry Hatsworth website, as well as view the game’s trailer, and a few nifty wallpapers.

Check that out here.

de Blob review

Only once in a while, the Wii seems to get a truly interesting title that fits its quirky bizarre nature.  Other titles in this category include Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, and WarioWare: Smooth Moves.  Well, add de Blob to the list.  It’s bizarre, quirky, funny, and a hell of a lot of fun.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen Review

Square-Enix loves their remakes. We’ve already seen Final Fantasy III and IV remade in 3D, and in November Chrono Trigger gets a re-release for the DS with some added features. It’s easy to see how Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, a remake of an old NES game, might get lost in the shuffle. With it’s old school design, simple battle system, and limited technology use, does DQIV have what it takes to hold up against Square’s juggernauts?

Sin & Punishment sequel coming to Wii in 2009

Another big announcement at Nintendo’s press conference today was Sin & Punishment 2 for the Wii. The original N64 on-rails shooter is one of the most popular imports of all time, and was recently released on the Virtual Console. Because of the interest we’ve all shown, the sequel will be coming to North American retail in 2009! First trailer below and screens after the jump! Now, if only Nintendo would release Earthbound on VC so we could all show how much we love it and get some sequels released here…
