Sin and Punishment coming to Japanese VC!

Finally, the N64 cult classic Sin and Punishment is coming to the Japanese virtual console. The treasure developed shooter. is an awesome game but never got the green light to be localized. Having it come to the Japanese VC is one step closer to having it on the American VC, a step Nintendo will hopefully take very soon.

Sin and Punishment will hit the VC sometime this September. Pray (or maybe start a petition) for a North American release sometime soon after.

Phantom Hourglass Interview with Eiji Aonuma

Nintendo Europe recently posted a translation of Japanese magazine Nintendo Only’s interview with Eiji Anouma, Director of the Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.

Nintendo Online Magazine: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is controlled with the DS stylus. But wouldn’t it be easier to keep using the + Control Pad?

Eiji Aonuma: “If you haven’t played Phantom Hourglass, you may have the impression that the game has been forcibly adapted just to suit the stylus and Touch Screen controls of the DS. Well, even among the development team there were those who thought the same thing at first, and of course there was a period during development when we re-examined the control method.“I am fully aware of how well the +Control Pad worked with previous Zelda games, and there were times we thought that it might be easier to control the game using the +Control Pad. It did cross our minds that perhaps we should give up on the stylus control idea altogether.“The process of making controls exclusively using the stylus and Touch Screen came about during development, once we felt confident that this method of control wouldn’t present any problems.”“The important thing to stress is that we came to feel that the stylus held more possibilities than the conventional control method - that it was inspiring all sorts of exciting gameplay ideas.

“While the player controls Link with the stylus, they can touch various objects on the Touch Screen and Link will react in a range of different ways. Basically, this method of control feels great to use. It removes the need to consider separately which way to move and then what sort of action to perform.

“We felt liberated from the slightly stilted convention that you had to first move up to any object in question and then press a button to make something happen. And the really interesting thing is that, as we worked on this system, it became a source of inspiration for all sorts of new ideas.

“For instance, when we were considering how best to control the boomerang, opinions would emerge quite naturally such as ‘The player should be able to choose the path it follow when it flies…’, or ‘It would be great if it followed the line you draw on the screen!’

“I feel that while developing this game, we developed as a team as well. It’s not as if from the start we had all known that the game could be totally controlled by the stylus. But in the end, precisely because the stylus was used for manipulating items and solving puzzles, we were able to pack the game with all manner of interesting things.

“I think that even if you are harbouring some doubts about stylus control for Zelda, once you have a go you will soon see how well it works.”

Smash Bros. Update - August 31st

A new stage has been revealed! This one is based on The WarioWare games.

The picture above is the basic stage. Every once and a while one of WarioWare’s famous five second mini games will initiate and the players will have to do whatever the screen tells them. Looks like things will be getting pretty hectic! There’s also rewards for people who complete the challenge. More screens after the jump!

NinjaTown for the DS

This one passed under my radar during Leipzig GC, but I thought it was worth sharing.

-

Sure it’s overly cutesy and wants ever-so-desperately to be Japanese, but I mean Come on! Ninjas!

Watch out for it next year! (But you won’t see it coming….. Ninjas!)

Eidos announces Monster Lab, exclusive to Wii

Eidos has announced first details on their new Wii exclusive Monster Lab. It’s being described as a story driven action RPG in the vein of Pokemon. The art style is purposefully reminiscent of Tim Burton’s films.

Players will build completely customizable ‘monsters’ from over 300 different items and 150 monster parts. You build your monsters by playing minigames with the remote and nunchuck. You’re required to do well at the games because if you mess them up your monster will have worse abilities.

It sounds like a very promising concept and from the looks of it has high production values. This will be one to watch for when it’s released next summer.

Manhunt 2, Back in Business

Manhunt 2

After one of the most dramatic ordeals in the history of gaming, it looks like the ESRB has finally downgraded the latest build of the horror sequel from an audience and distribution-killing Adults-Only rating, to a rating of M for Mature. Rockstar has also announced that they plan to go ahead and release the game on October 31, 2007… Halloween.

Nintendo sending out VC emails

Better late than never.

Arriving in my inbox at midnight this morning was an email from Nintendo letting me know the VC releases for this week, as well as important information like price, and a few video clips for good measure. All-in-all, a really good thing to have. Let’s hope they make it a weekly affair.

Your Wii may have Worms.

Worms!

It looks like we can expect a new Worms title in the Spring of ‘08. THQ has announced today that Worms: A Space Oddity will be their new title in the popular franchise featuring bazooka-toting exploding-sheep-firing invertebrates. This edition features four-player Wi-Fi play, new settings, new weapons, and a redesigned system to make good use of gesture-based controls. They’ve remained skimpy on any sort of further detail, other than that it’s sci-fi based and will take place across six distinct planets.

One thing they didn’t specify was whether it would retain the classic 2D look and feel, or forge ahead in 3D, the way of the awkward and clunky two previous installments.

Check out the official press release after the jump.
