Oh, how Nintendo likes to toy with our little hearts by “not commenting on rumours or speculation”. Though when they tell us that, we usually know that something’s up. In this case it’s the new Animal Crossing game for the Wii. EDGE magazine seems to know something we don’t (and we know nothing about Animal Crossing Wii, other that it is to be made at some point, so that’s a big step). They’re reporting that a source from Japan claims that the upcoming Animal Crossing Wii game will be a Massively Multiplayer Online Game.

A Japanese source has confirmed to Edge that the upcoming Wii iteration of Animal Crossing is set to be a social networking MMO.

Yeah, they’re really not giving us much there, but if this turns out to be true it could bring realisation of the dream that anybody who has played Animal Crossing has had. If Nintendo doesn’t screw it up it could be huge… and by “huge” I mean MASSIVE! … and MULTPLAYER!… and ONLINE! … and GAME!
