Oh Snap! Pokemon Snap to receive additional functionality for VC release

Much as we all expected, Pokemon Snap, the cult-classic N64 title which allows players to capture pictures of various pocket monsters in their natural habitat, is officially coming to the Wii’s Virtual Console. A lot of people have been waiting for this one, but they’re getting treated to something even more special.

In addition to the game’s content, the snapshots taken by Wii users can then be posted onto the Message Board which you can then send to your Wii friends online like any other photo.

This is a good sign from Nintendo. Finally they’re adding online functionality to some of these games. But hopefully, this seriously ramps up for future titles. When are we going to be able to play VC titles online?

Nyko Perfect Shot > Wii Zapper

At least looks-wise, Nyko’s Perfect Shot accessory is way cooler than the Wii Zapper.

Awwww yeah. And parents complained about the Zapper looking like a gun… Take a look at the press release for this accessory and Nyko’s “Net Connect” accessory after the break.

New Wii Game: MiniCopter: Adventure Flight

chris.gif

“All the fun of RC Helicopters, without the fear of losing an eye!”

minicopter.jpg

Growing up, I always wanted a remote-controlled helicopter. My friend had one and I was insanely jealous. The kits were incredibly expensive, and I knew that the second I had built it, I’d crash it and I’d never get over it.

Luckily, I don’t have to worry anymore, because Aksys Games will be releasing MiniCopter: Adventure Flight onto the Wii in the Spring.

The game has you controlling a toy helipcopter through a variety of missions. Sort of like Pilotwings, but without all the personality.

“MiniCopter: Adventure Flight is a great game for budding RC modelers and children who enjoy playing with RC toys,” said Akibo Shieh, President, Aksys Games. “MiniCopter allows kids to customize their helicopter without worrying about breaking their toy and seeing immediate results.”

Beeeeautiful. Check out the full press release after the break!

Wii Zapper/Link’s Crossbow Training Review

chris.gif

wiizapper.jpg

Back at E3 ‘06 when the Wii was revealed in all its glowing glory, Nintendo showed us a light-gun shell that had our imaginations running wild as to how awesome a new (or classic) version of Duck Hunt would be on the Wii. Pixel-perfect accuracy, wireless controls, the same annoying dog that you kept trying to shoot but nothing would happen… We heard nothing about it for a while, until recently, when Nintendo finally remembered the “Zapper” and decided to finally give it to us, albeit more stylishly designed and forgetting the 80’s look. It’s alright Nintendo, I forgive you. They also decided to bundle it with a short game, Link’s Crossbow Training, to demonstrate its abilities.

Hands-on with Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

nWaffle got really lucky just recently as I got my hands on the demo for the upcoming Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, the DS-incarnation of the super fast-paced action series. Ninja Gaiden games have always been of incredibly high quality, and all were critical successes, featuring solid controls, excellent fighting, and gorgeous visuals. This game is looking like it will be no different. In fact, it looks straight-up kick ass!

Bringing Mario into the 3rd Dimension.

chris.gif

For those of you (and myself included) that weren’t aware, SIJM is going on right now. That’s le Sommet international du jeu de Montreal, another annual gaming conference which is happening today and tomorrow.

super-mario-galaxy2.jpgThe Nintendo keynote was delivered by Yoshiaki Koizumi. It’s a name you might or might not recognise, but he has an impressive resume, including head game director for everyone’s current favourite game, Super Mario Galaxy. Gamasutra has posted a summary of his speech, which is a very fascinating read, so y’all’d better check it out. He talks about the challenges of bringing Mario, and platforming in general, into the 3D world, as well as going into detail about the ideas that made Galaxy what it is.

“The concept was to play with Mario running around on spherical objects – something Miyamoto had come up with 5 years before, and something I came up with too. Why spherical worlds… What distinctive features attracted us to spherical worlds? Was it just because they were novel?…”

“Wii’re ready to believe you!”

ghostbusters_071116_ms.jpgAre you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or family seen a spook, spectre or ghost?

If your answer is “yes”, then I’ve got some more great news for you about the upcoming Ghostbusters game. According to Jeff Mills of Red Fly Studio (the studio developing Ghostbusters: The Video Game), even though the 360 and PS3 versions of the game will essentially be twins with mind-blowing graphics, and us Wii owners are left to share a version with the PS2, we have nothing to fear. Apparently, the Wii/PS2 version is being developed for the Wii, and being poorly ported over to the PS2, rather than the other way around that we’re all so very used to. Also, this is as much confirmation as I need of 4-player multiplayer. No images yet of the Wii version, but if it’s as good as he’s making it sound, I’m not concerned.

The Nintendo Wii is our primary version of the Ghostbusters game. We are pushing that hardware to its maximum potential. Where necessary, the PS2 might have some aspects reduced (i.e. only 2-player multiplayer instead of the Wii’s 4-player).

Just remember. If somebody asks you if you’re a god, you say YES!

I’ve just got so many quotes that need to be used… Here’s hoping for more Ghostbusters news…

First footage of Fragile, the new Wii RPG

chris.gif

Perhaps I should take My French Coach down from the number one spot on my DS to-buy list, and replace it with something that will teach me Japanese. Wanna know why? It’s because the recently announced Wii RPG Fragile finally has a trailer and some screenshots which can be seen at the new Official Website. If any of you know Japanese, and would like to fill us in on what’s going on, please do so. If you don’t speak Japanese like us, just enjoy the pretty video.

Everyone’s Nintendo Channel now available for Japanese Wii’s.

everybodysnintendochannel.jpgWell this was a shocker. Just today, Japanese Wii-owners were delightfully surprised as their consoles lit blue with news that the Everyone’s Nintendo Channel is now live. The channel that was just announced back in October allows Wii-owners to view trailers for various Wii titles, allow DS-owners to download and transfer demos to their handhelds for upcoming games, and vote/rate the games which they own. This is a very exciting channel indeed, one that we were all waiting for. Well it seems we may have to wait a bit longer. There has been no date set for North America, or any other territory, so when this channel comes out for everywhere other than Japan is anyone’s guess.

Ah glorious envy…
