Ghostbusters: The Game officially announced!

If you have any trace of humanity in you, you will know how awesome the Ghostbusters were. That original movie from 1984 left its mark and became an instant classic, and we still look back fondly. And the same definitely goes for the classic television show. But our jaws are now dropped, our eyes wide, and our home-made proton-packs are once again at the ready as news has officially arrived that Ghostbusters: The Game is now coming to consoles! And no…we don’t mean that God-awful NES game. Set to arrive Fall 2008, and developed by Red Fly Studios, the studio we know nothing about, and who is developing Mushroom Men - a game we know nothing about (but we are still somehow excited for), Ghostbusters: The Game is being written by the two famous co-creators of the franchise, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. That alone should get any Ghostbuster happy…

House of the Dead coming to Wii

Sega has announced that they’ll be bringing out a House of the Dead compilation for Wii in spring 2008. It’s called ‘The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return”. Can’t complain, those were awesome games and will work wonderfully with the Wiimote or Zapper. There’s a bunch of different modes, including a co-operative mode! Wii is looking to be THE platform for on-rails zombie blasting action.

It’s official. Galaxy highest rated game of all time.

supermariogalaxy_logo.jpgI totally called it, but now it’s finally official.

According to GameRankings.com, Super Mario Galaxy has now surpassed The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as the highest rated/reviewed game of all time with a current average score (among major media outlets) of 97.9%.

Ocarina has an average of 97.5% for statistics freaks like me who need to know how much it’s beating the competition. I won’t judge you.

Japan gets free Galaxy Soundtrack. Western world explodes of jealousy.

chris.gif

There are many reasons to hate Japan’s Club Nintendo. One, because they get all sorts of free stuff for buying games. Two, because North America has no equivalent. What do we get extra for buying games? Absolutely nothing.

It looks like there are a few more products being added to Club Nintendo’s list of giveaway products. A special Wii Classic Controller that looks like a Super Famicom gamepad, a Mario Galaxy desk calendar, and best of all a two-disc soundtrack to Super Mario Galaxy, featuring 81 fully-orchestrated tracks.

I love Japan, and I love what comes out of Japan, but with this, it’s really hard to feel the love.

More after the break!

Battalion Wars II review

Battalion Wars II is the sequel to the sleeper hit original on the Nintendo Gamecube. Nintendo’s action-heavy take on real-time strategy returns on the Nintendo Wii with not only Wii-specific controls, but also an emphasis on multiplayer, a feature which the first title lacked entirely. But does this game still put up a fight?

Let’s-a Go!

100_0419.JPGSo I set out this evening with low expectations. I needed some food so I went to Superstore, also in the vain hope that they might have gotten Galaxy in. They didn’t, but I picked up a cantelope and some doritos.

On my way out I decided to walk over to Rogers Video, just on the off-chance, since they carry some games too. I walk in the front door, approach the young woman working at the counter, I say “Excuse me I was won- ” then I stop and look down at what she’s doing.

She’s putting prices on Galaxy.

“Yeah, they just got in like 10 minutes ago, ” she told me. They had only gotten a handful of them. I couldn’t have been more suprised and happy, and I think I mentally blacked out for a few minutes out of excitement. As I was walking back towards the bus stop I couldn’t believe my luck, and I checked my bag to make sure it wasn’t a cantelope-induced dream. No, it was no dream. I have Galaxy. Super Mario F * * *in’ Galaxy.

Chances are this will be my last post of the night. I know Kevin finally got his copy, so I doubt he’ll post anything more tonight, except for how his mind is being ’sploded by this game.

So good luck everyone in finding your respective copies. I think it’s safe to say that this will be an amazing week for gaming, seeing as tomorrow I’ll be picking up at least Medal of Honour: Heroes 2, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles.

So many games, so little time.

The Simpsons Game(s): Which is worth your money?

chris.gif

simpsons_game.jpg If you’re a Simpsons fan (like myself), or really just a hip and happening kind of gamer (like myself) then you already know that EA has released several editions of The Simpsons Game. This would be the 22nd Simpsons game to be released, which must be some sort of record, though only a handful were actually any good.

Since there are so many editions of the game, I figured I’d give you some quick thoughts on both the Wii and DS versions, since this is a Nintendo site I’ll just pretend those other editions don’t exist.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Review

Well, here I sit, waiting for EBGames to get Galaxy in stock. I figured it would be a good opportunity to reflect on last week’s Mario release: Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games! My shoulders are still burning from my most recent play session! Mario and Sonic managed to impress me with it’s addicting nature and solid gameplay. However, some flaws kept it from rising up into true greatness.

Wii receiving update in December for Photo Channel. Mp3 support being replaced.

Nintendo’s official Wii site has revealed some odd/exciting news.

Quoted from site -

* Personalize your Wii Menu by making one of your favorite digital images from an SD memory card as the Photo Channel icon.

* The Wii console will replace MP3 compatibility with the ability to play AAC files, which provide a greater sound quality than an MP3 of the same size. This new compatibility will work with MP4 audio files in the .m4a format. Additionally, you can now choose to have the songs play back in a random order.

* Wii consoles sold in retail stores starting in December 2007 should include AAC file support.

* For Wii Console owners without the AAC file compatibility, you can download the updated version of the Photo Channel from the Wii Shop Channel starting in early December 2007. Please note that once you download the updated Photo Channel (ver 1.1), you will no longer be able to play MP3 format music files.

Additionally, consumers who purchase a Wii console with the updated Photo Channel (ver. 1.1) already installed will not be able to install the previous version to support MP3 playback.

This is a very odd thing to do. Personalizing my Photo Channel icon (especially since I actually used that feature for the first time last week) sounds great, but to replace mp3 support? I was hoping to actually use this when games started using the SD cards to import your own music. Couldn’t the Wii support both formats? I just don’t get it….
