Mario Kart Wii details! Half of the tracks, online notes, and Mii-support.
Ever wanted to actually throw a red shell at your sister? Well, it seems now you finally can without getting yelled at (maybe)! Finally, we get some new info on the upcoming Mario Kart Wii. We’re all still wondering if this baby will get pushed to Q3 or Q4 to completely avoid releasing near Brawl. Well… we still don’t have an answer, but we have plenty more details regarding the tracks and online modes, as well as other features.
One such feature is the ability to take your Mii’s and let them race as well! It’s a cool idea for sure. But personally, I don’t really see the point of it. I’d rather be driving around as Dry Bones or Yoshi than myself. Oh, my self-esteem issues…
As we already know, bikes are in the game. Now while stunts were confirmed for the game, bikes will have exclusive moves like wheelies. No clue if that’s the only one, but it’s there. How big a factor are the stunts to the overall game? There’s some talk going around that bikes may be exclusive to the cup mode, but nothing confirmed. Seems rather pointless to do so, though.
For the tracks, the game is following what Mario Kart DS did by including 32 stages total. That would be 16 brand-new tracks, and 16 classic ones. Right now, about half of them have been revealed.

But that’s not all. Translated from a Japanese magazine, there are a few really interesting details made about the online modes. First-off, twelve racers will be able to go at it online. No details if that’ll be altered for friend-matches, or if there’s anything else of the sort. Online rankings take a role here as global and local leaderboards will be kept. One strange detail, however, is that the online aspect will receive its own channel. No confirmation if this is just the leaderboard aspect or the full online. Also, ghosts in the time trials will be able to be uploaded and downloaded, so if you make the fastest time in Time Trial, feel free upload it to the servers for others to fear your skills.
The game is coming to Japan on April 10th of this year. No NA or European releases have been set. We’ll have more for you as more details surface. Either way, this sounds like a very promising title. I mean come on, it’s Mario Kart!
