Official Nintendo Magazine “Unleashes” more Sonic details (See what I did there?)

The newest edition of the UK’s Official Nintendo Magazine has a great 8-page spread about Sonic Unleashed. They reveal a little more detail as to gameplay elements, as well as finally revealing what we already know have been trying to figure out regarding the mysterious furry arm in the second trailer.

They’re all scanned images with no nice little preview to copy-paste into this post, and I’m much too lazy to type any of it myself, so I’ll leave it up to you to visit Wiiz.fr.

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword review

When Ninja Gaiden DS was first unveiled last year, it certainly shocked people. The idea of one of the best-looking, most notorious action-adventure games on the consoles coming to the DS made plenty of people skeptical. Give them five minutes of playtime, and those feelings of doubt quickly turned around. I was certainly blown away when I finally got my hands on the demo. Now that the game is actually out though, is Team Ninja’s new title as cutting-edge as it was when we first saw it, or does it miss its mark?

Nintendo Media Summit - maybe we’ll see something?

For those who don’t know, Nintendo is holding a media event tomorrow and Friday. Since the post office lost our invitations (typical, am I right?), we’re unable to attend.  Reggie himself asked me if we wanted to go and I was like “Daaamn Reggie, you know you want me there!” and then we went for sushi where we ran into Sylvester Stallone and he’s all “Yo!  I’m John Rambo!  Don’t mess wit’ me!”  But then Reggie pulled out a pizza-cutter and was like “Bring it!” and then the world exploded.

*sigh* But anyways, we’ll still be scouring every inch of the internet to gather as much information on hands-ons and announcements from the summit that we can.

Now I’ll just let you know that you shouldn’t get your hopes up. This isn’t E3, so don’t expect them to announce Kid Icarus or anything. Although that would be awesome… Instead, expect some hands-ons with some of Nintendo’s upcoming titles that we already know about. For example, WiiFit and Mario Kart Wii.

Day 1 of the summit will be focused on Wii games. Again, we likely aren’t going to get something new announced, but there may be some first hands-ons with games like Disaster: Day of Crisis. I mention that game because Famitsu has reported that it’s set to come out this July. So if it’s true, this is going to be the place where we finally see it in action.

Day 2 will be focused almost entirely on WiiWare with the service launching in just a month. We’re certainly going to see a few new titles and perhaps a finalized launch list.

Now before you get ready for a day of hitting refresh on our site every 20 minutes, Nintendo will be embargoing a lot of the show. At least for about a week. Expect a leak or two, and we’ll get on top of those. But again, just be aware we aren’t going to see too much for a short while.

Stay tuned, though, because we’ll be keeping you updated with any new news or info on the summit.

RUMOUR: F-Zero Z????

Well this was random… Planet-Nintendo.de posted a logo for a possible F-Zero sequel. I don’t know what to make of it… mainly because the site is in German. No clue if it’s real or not, but… well… it looks cool?

I honestly find the idea of a new F-Zero kind of surprising. Largely due to the fact that neither the Gamecube iteration, F-Zero GX, or the Game Boy Advance version (in Japan only) sold well. Miyamoto himself has expressed his disinterest in the GC version.

But we’ll see what happens within the next two days at Nintendo’s Media Summit. If something is said, cool. If not, we’ll see at E3. Honestly, if the new game is anything like F-Zero X on the N64, count me in.

Another Sonic Unleashed Teaser

Now it’s time for another edition of “Suprises that Aren’t Actually Suprises”. Today we’ve got a new Sonic Teaser trailer, officially released from Sega. This one’s especially “suprising”, because we get a first look at some sort of hairy arm. WHAT COULD IT BE?

Oh Sega. You have no idea how hard it’s getting pretending to be shocked…

Telltale Telling Tales of Sam and Max on Wii

It’s a weird concept to refer to a “season” of a video game. Much like a TV show, the latest from the cult classic Sam and Max series has been released over the past year-and-a-half in “episodes”. A concept that has yet to be truly popularised, though the Half-Life 2 (best. FPS. evar.) series has given it a shot with their episodes 1 and 2 releases (and episode 3 is coming… when?). Sam and Max was the first franchise to really try it, keep at it, and have it not suck.

Now, developer Telltale Games has plans for releasing the entirety of Season One (all 6 episodes) on the Wii as (essentially) a direct port of the PC versions. We’re all used to ports from different systems by now, so that’s not a big deal… Sam and Max and the Wii was pretty much a match made in heaven, as fans have been asking for this for a long time (or at least since the Wii released… which doesn’t feel quite so long). We can expect the game to arrive this fall, but in the meantime, I highly suggest checking out the short-lived animated series as well as the comics that started it all.

For those unfortunate souls that have never heard of Sam and Max, they’re a detective duo (calling themselves “freelance police”) that travel across the globe (and once to the moon) solving crimes. They’re also anthropomorphic animals, one being a 6-foot-tall dog and the other being some sort of hyper-rabbit. They also drive a black 1960 DeSoto Adventurer.

Seriously, guys. It’s a recipe for pure win.

Force Unleashed Dated. Pants remained on.

Remember, Remember, the 16th of September. That’s when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is coming to North America. Japan/Australia and Europe are going to have to wait until the 17th and 18th, respectively.

While it’s unfortunate that it’s not going to look as impressive as the 360/PS3 versions, I’m still pretty excited for the Wii control scheme, detailed in Shaan’s Post yesterday. For those interested (and those who have cable), SpikeTV will be airing a short behind-the-scenes special on The Force Unleashed next week during airings of all six Star Wars films. The times are as follows:

-April 6 at 7:58 p.m. ET/PT - between the premiere of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith
-April 11 at 10:52 p.m. ET/PT - At the end of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
-April 12 at 12:00 a.m. ET/PT - throughout an episode of GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley filmed at LucasArts’ headquarters in San Francisco
-April 12 at 5:06 p.m. ET/PT - before Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope
-April 13 at 5:06 p.m. ET/PT - before Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back

Of course, what’s more important here is that this means that there will be two “Unleashed” games releasing in 2008. Maybe this is the start of a new fad? Perhaps E308 will reveal The Legend of Zelda: Unleashed, or maybe an uncancelled version of Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting: Unleashed.

Sonic Unleashed Debut Trailer (and it’s not a Rick Roll!)

The full press release is a couple of posts down, so I won’t bore you all with that again, but now we’ve got an official trailer for Sonic Unleashed.

I think it pretty much speaks for itself. (Love the music!)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Review

I can imagine the meeting before the first Smash Bros. game was made. “How can we make the best game ever?” “Well, we’ll make a fighting game, but with all the most famous Nintendo characters, and make it absolutely insane”. And Super Smash Bros. — now Nintendo’s highest selling series — was born.

It’s been six and a half long years since Smash Bros. Melee was released in 2001, and the hype for the series’ third installment, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has been incredible. From the first announcement at E3 2006, to the daily updates on the Dojo, right up to the line-ups at the midnight launch, Brawl has been the most anticipated Nintendo game of all time. Does it deliver?
