Remember that teaser in the back of last month’s Nintendo Power? I do, and I certainly wasn’t expecting this to come of it. While the issue has yet to hit newsstands, at least not here, I find it unlikely that this is some cruel photoshoppery.

While I’ve said before, I’ve never been a big Sonic guy myself, even this gets me completely baffled. While we don’t have any more details about this game other than this cover image, it’s garnered quite the negative reaction around the Interwebs. What is Sega thinking this time? First we get Sonic Unleashed, which looks like an awesome 2D/3D back-to-basics Sonic game, but lately seems to be becoming more and more like a slow-paced Were-sloth action game. Then there’s this, which looks like it’s going to be a sword combat game. 1:1 perhaps? If Sega’s going to go that route, then why not create a new IP for it, rather than trying to fit an existing and beloved IP into it?

I could be wrong, though. This game could be amazing. I suppose time will tell.

*Update* It looks like SonicAndTheBlackKnight.com was registered by the Sega Corporation at the beginning of this month. I’d say that this game is now confirmed.
