Press event to reveal game “everyone is waiting for”

Gamekyo (formerly JeuxFrance) seems to know something nobody else does. They’re claiming that Nintendo will be revealing a new game for the Wii “which is actually an old franchise that everyone is waiting for.”

I’m placing my hopes in Kid Icarus, since we know it exists but didn’t see it at E3, though knowing Nintendo and their ability to keep secrets it could be anything. I’m actually getting a bit excited for Thursday now. Let’s hope that Nintendo doesn’t disappoint.

Rumour: New DS with Camera, MP3 capabilities on the way

A Japanese newspaper out yesterday claims that Nintendo is all set to launch a redesigned/updated version of the DS, one that features a built-in camera, MP3 playback, and better networking features. Another version of the story on a seperate news website claims that it will have larger screens, and the ability to transfer data on an SD card from the Wii.

It’s all rumour at this point, though it’s odd that a newspaper would claim it as fact. Mind you, the translation is a little iffy. I don’t really see the need for a new DS right now anyway, seeing as the current Lite model continues to sell just fine. The article claims that Nintendo is making it to compete with other all-in-one devices, like camera phones. I know I’ve got one myself, and an iPod, so this new DS idea doesn’t really interest me.

This comes at an interesting time, seeing as Nintendo is all set to host a major press event on Thursday in California, and an event in Japan at the same time. Now, usually these things are days apart, but having them at the same time indicates that they’ll be giving us something big (no more Wii Music, please?) so even though rumours of a DS-II have been flying for a while, perhaps this story has some possibility.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed review

Naturally, Wii-owners have been clamoring for a lightsaber game since we first saw the Wii remote.  While we are going to have to wait until next year for Wii Motion Plus before we see a truly 1:1 experience, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed does what it can in the meantime to make you feel like a truly powerful Dark Jedi.  But is Krome Studio’s translation of the Xbox 360/PS3’s tech powerhouse strong with the Force or has Star Wars gaming fallen to the Dark Side?

Space Invaders Extreme review

Space Invaders’ influence has been felt throughout the ages. When it first arose from the ashes after the meteor landed in northern Kentucky, it was but a wee invader. But now… it’s EXTREME!…. Okay I have NO idea where I was going with that…… Anyways. Space Invaders Extreme is one of the most recent reincarnations of a classic game given a sort of “remix” treatment, first executed with the XBLA title, Pac-Man Championship Edition. The ‘Extreme’ moniker would seem a bit pretentious but let me say that it certainly earns that name.
